Southdene Strings was formed by professional cellist Liz Roberts in 1996 with graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music.
We offer a String Duo (violin and cello) , which is perfect for ceremonies and smaller venues where space is an issue and a String Quartet (2 violins, viola & cello), ideal for large events where a fuller sound is needed.

This is our most popular ensemble. It’s perfect for weddings and ideal for smaller venues, or where space is limited.
Imagine walking down the aisle to the sound of live strings playing your favourite song or piece. The Southdene Duo can then continue to play whilst you and your guests relax and enjoy your reception drinks and meal.
OUR MUSICIANS
At Southdene Strings, we use a small pool of carefully selected musicians, all of whom have been trained at top UK conservatoires. Many of our string players also regularly work with leading orchestras and ensembles all over the world.
This includes well known British orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Opera North, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia and the Hallé. While our musicians are classically trained to the highest standard they are also incredibly versatile, many having performed on stage with pop moguls such as Ronan Keating, Jarvis Cocker, Muse and Lady Gaga. Impressive television appearances also include The X-Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, Tonight’s the Night, Eurovision and the Royal Variety Performance.

Southdene Strings is a company of musicians run by musicians who are on hand to guide you through every step of arranging your event music.
Our Managing Director Liz Roberts (l) and Booking Co-Ordinator Ilona Hepburn (r) are both professional cellists and good friends who met while studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. Both members of staff regularly perform with our ensembles and are experienced in every facet of providing music for your event. Ilona will be your point of contact and will guide you through the booking process from choosing your ensemble to selecting your choice of music. Liz and Ilona have carved long and successful careers in providing the best service of event music and are always on hand to answer any questions you might have about our service and your event.
